John Chesley is responsible for overseeing the asset management and financial performance of the American Real Estate Partners portfolio. Mr. Chesley brings a broad background to the management team with a depth of experience in asset management, development and transaction execution across multiple asset classes and markets throughout the U.S.
Prior to joining American Real Estate Partners, Mr. Chesley served as a Senior Asset Manager within the real estate fund division of The Carlyle Group in Washington, D.C. While at The Carlyle Group, Mr. Chesley lead multiple operating teams in the investment management of an opportunistic real estate investment portfolio consisting of development, hospitality, residential, office and retail assets throughout the U.S. He developed and executed the investment strategy for the portfolio and was responsible for leading several successful asset repositioning plays throughout his career at The Carlyle Group.
Prior to his tenure at The Carlyle Group, Mr. Chesley worked as an Associate within the principal investing division of Morgan Stanley Real Estate in New York where he oversaw the investment management of a multi-asset real estate investment portfolio consisting of core, opportunistic and separate account assets throughout the U.S. Mr. Chesley began his career as a Senior Consultant within the real estate advisory practice at Ernst & Young in New York.
Mr. Chesley holds a Masters in taxation and finance from The University of Texas at Austin and a B.B.A in finance and accounting from The University of Miami.
