Mr. Betzig is responsible for sourcing acquisitions of commercial properties within major markets along the northeastern seaboard. Mr. Betzig brings close to 20 years of experience in all aspects of real estate, including financing, recapitalization, dispositions, acquisitions and development.
Prior to joining American Real Estate Partners, Mr. Betzig was employed by Eastdil Secured as a Director from May 2000 through December 2009 where he completed over $12 billion of real estate transactions every major market in the United States involving financings, recapitalizations, dispositions, and whole loan sales. Such notable recent transactions included the sale and financing of Beacon Capital Partners private REIT Funds II and III in 2006 and 2007 to Broadway Real Estate Partners, with an aggregate value of approximately $8.0 billion comprising 16.8 million square feet across the Country. Notable properties within the funds where John Hancock Tower (Boston), 237 Park Avenue (New York), 100 Wall Street (New York), 100 California Street (San Francisco), 2445 M Street (Wash DC), 1615 L Street (Wash DC) and 200 State Street (Boston). In addition, Mr. Betzig was involved in the disposition of AON Center in Chicago, the financing and recapitalization Two Liberty Place in Philadelphia, worked in advisory capacity on International Place in Boston and valued all East Coast assets within the former EOP portfolio for Blackstone’s $39 billion acquisition.
From 1993 to 2000 Mr. Betzig was a Vice President at Rockwood Realty Associates in New York City where he was involved in over $2.5 billion in real estate transactions. Prior to joining Rockwood, Mr. Betzig worked for Fosterlane Management Corporation from 1990 to 1993, the United States real estate investment and management arm of the Kuwait Investment Office, with more than $2.5 billion of institutional real estate under ownership in the early 1990’s. While at Fosterlane, Mr. Betzig was an Investment Analyst working on holdings that included 885 Third Avenue, 31 West 52nd Street, The Dallas Galleria Mall and Dallas Galleria Towers I, II and III.
Mr. Betzig holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Iona College.
